hand gesture
Posted May 6, 2009
Another section of building art/mural from the same building that features the Iguana from Monday’s post. Hand gesture is the letter “Y” in American Sign Language.
It resembles the California gesture meaning “Hang loose”; the original Hawaiian gesture meaning pretty much the same thing. In the Islands, it is known as the “Shaka” sign, and is also used to indicate that things are cool and as a welcoming gesture among locals. Also hello, goodbye, catch you later, awesome, groovy, etc. The back of the hand is turned to the viewer in the Shaka.
